About the collections

Images and documents from the Manatee County Public Library Historical Digital Collections portray Manatee County people, activities, and buildings from the late nineteenth century to the early 1980's. In addition to depicting schools, churches, hospitals, and means of transportation, the photographs feature many prominent local families and their important role in building and documenting Manatee County.

In 1965, members of the Manatee County Historical Society began copying photos from local long-time Manatee County families. In 1978 the Society turned their 6,250 images over to the library system, which continued to collect images. In 2003, 32,300 archival negatives then in the Eaton Florida History Room collection were sent to USF Library for digitization and addition to a digital library on USF's website. In January 2013, Manatee County Public Library chose to host our own collections via this powerful digital library platform, ContentDM.
